Care that goes beyond the expected

Dr. Karen Becker

This page will be dedicated to video’s and articles by Dr. Karen Becker  www.drkarenbecker.com/ from Bourbonnais, IL .  I will update the list periodically, so watch for new titles!

I thought I’d start by telling you a little bit about her!

Dr. Becker is Teeghan and Doogan’s veterinarian and every time we visit with her I’m always learning something new!  She is a wealth of information on all things natural!  If you met her, you’d love her!  When she comes into the examination room, the first thing she does is to sit down on the floor with your dog!  Her hands are always touching and moving over our dogs’ bodies.  She’s funny and witty and really concerned about YOUR dog, and any  questions your might have.  But, I’ve found that I have to have my questions of concern written down with pen in hand as she talks so fast, and shares so much information, you have to write FAST! :-) Her household consists of many animals from dog’s, to an opossum, to a red tailed hawk, to a tortoise who got to big to roam around her clinic so now, has to stay home!

Besides treating small animals, she also treats exotic birds,  reptiles, and is also state and federally licensed for Wildlife Rehabilitation!

Her site says it best!  “Dr. Becker’s goal with every patient is to identify and remove lifestyle obstacles before disease occurs. It is this approach that sets her apart from other DVMs. Traditional veterinarians practice reactive medicine, waiting until disease is present, then treating the symptoms with drugs. Dr. Becker’s proactive approach takes into account genetics, nutrition, prior illness, environmental stressors and your pet’s unique disease patterns to help identify and reduce health risks and in turn, disease potential.  By monitoring your pet’s organ systems, immune status, musculoskeletal health, dynamic nutritional requirements and detoxification mechanisms, Dr. Becker’s proactive approach can reduce overall disease potential and identify subtle changes in your pet’s overall wellbeing, sooner rather than later.”

I am thankful for all the info available on your website. Can you send me in the direction of more info on “Solid Gold” dog food? I feed the “wolf king” variety. Would really appreciate your opinion.
Thank you so much for your time.

      Hi Patti,
      Thank you for your question!
This is the page from the company with the info for the Solid Gold Wolf King. http://www.solidgoldnorthwest.com/products/pro_dry/pro_wking.html
Here is a GREAT statement from them!: “Free-Range Bison – Our bison is free range fed, not from feedlots. No chemicals or hormones are fed. The bison are not branded, castrated or dehorned. This USDA human consumption grade meat is from Montana, Oregon and Washington.”
BUT, the problem, in my opinion, is that they include Canola Oil, Sodium Selenate and Copper Sulfate (refer to Brand Review Chart for info on these items) and their Taurine is purchased from China,in this blend. Using products containing these ingredients could build up in a dogs system in time, possibly causing them problems, as is explained in the Review. Personally, for my dogs, I am not willing to take that chance, but this is a personal decision for each pet owner to decide.
If you’d like further info on this, or any suggestions please feel free to ask! :)
